Out of each 24 hour day, it is recommended be experts that you sleep at least a third of the day (8 hours), which is a good chunk of the day. When this process is interrupted it is called sleep deprivation. Some effects of sleep deprivation include a weakened immune system and even memory loss. It can become a serious illness if you continue to be deprived of sleep for a long period of time.

When your immune system is weak, it will make it so your body can’t fight any viruses that you may be exposed to. If you are getting the flu or cold more often than your peers, than it may be because of your sleep deprivation. You may miss out on work, which could affect you financially, if you aren’t getting enough sleep.

You may be wondering how you can tell if you are suffering from sleep deprivation. One telltale sign is if you need frequent naps or you are falling asleep at the wrong times of the day. You may feel that it is just normal, but it may be affecting your body is negative ways.

A sleep journal can help you to keep track of your sleep so you can notice any sleep deprivation. Charting how long you sleep each night allows you to see certain patterns in your sleep. If you are not getting the recommended amount of sleep (7-9 hours), then you are being deprived of sleep.

Your bed needs to be as comfortable as possible in order to enabled you to get good sleep. Keeping your sheets clean allows you to feel more comfortable while in your bed. You may also consider cracking a window to get fresh air and better ventilation.

All in all, your body will be negatively affected if you are not getting enough sleep. One thing to try is medications or pills that will help you to sleep better. Your life and health will appreciate it if you get a good nights rest, each and every night.
