Sleep Disorder Clinics

What about sleep disorder clinics.
When you have suffered from constant sleeping difficulties and you feel like you have tried everything and still cannot get a good night’s sleep you might want to try and locate a nearby sleep disorder clinic. All across the United States and in many major hospitals are sleep disorder centers which specialize in diagnosing all forms of sleep related issues. Most sleep clinics work the same way. First they require you to spend the night while they observe and record you as you sleep. Some people find the thought of this abit uncomfortable, but this simple act of observation can be the key to identifying the root cause of any sleep related issues you may be having.
It is crucial that you are monitored while you sleep so that the physicians at the sleep center can collect enough measurable data from all the physical changes you go through during the various stages of sleep. Everything from your body position to your blood oxygen level is recorded. A microphone may be attached to your neck to monitor any snoring.
They may also wrap a light strap around your chest and lower abdomen to record various muscle movements and body tensing. Your brain waves will also be monitored by specially placed electrodes on your head and eyelids. This is done to try and pinpoint any correlations between various mental states and your physical responses.
You may be thinking that wearing all this strange measuring and recording equipment would make it pretty hard to sleep, but everything that is attached to you has been designed to fit comfortably and should not interfere with you falling asleep or staying asleep.
While spending your night at the sleep center, your time there may be broken up into what is called a “split-night” test. In a split night test, the first half of your session is used to identify and diagnoses possible causes to your sleeping problems, while the second half of your time is used to try various treatment options for any particular sleep issues that may have been identified during the first half of the split-night test. This is most commonly done with people who are being tested for sleep apnea.
Going through all of the above may seem like a daunting task, but chronic problems sleeping can have so many adverse affects on multiple aspects of our lives that going through one night of discomfort is well worth it, if it means we may finally find a long term solution to our sleeping problems.
