Resolving Sleep Problems In Baby
All children need to have good quality sleep, but for babies it will have a direct affect on their health and development if they do not sleep well. Seeing a sleeping baby is a joy, but seeing and hearing a non-sleeping baby is a horrible experience for all concerned. Babies love routine, so if you put a baby sleep routine in place, and stick to it, you will find that everyone concerned enjoys a good nights sleep.
Setting good bedtime habits for your baby, is a good thing to get in place early on. A baby will be happier and more contended during the day, if they have a good sleep pattern in place. This will also make it much more likely that they will sleep through the night.
There are a number of things that you can do to get a routine in place:
Most of us have some kind of winding down routine before we go to sleep and this should be no different for your baby. Perhaps the sleep routine could begin with a bath, followed by a slow dimming of the lights (so they realise it is getting near to sleep time), then a change of nappy or diaper, putting them in the crib or cot and finishing with a bedtime story or lullaby.
There are no hard and fast rules for baby routines. Just to find something that works and fits in with your family life is perfect. The main thing is that you stick with this routine constantly so that it does become habit and your baby falls asleep with no issues.
Babies enjoy the predictability that a sleep routine brings, so they will start to settle much better. By getting the routine in place early on, they will fall asleep more easily and also sleep through the night.
Baby sleep routines, should be put in place as early as possible in your babys’ life. Also ensure that the room the baby sleeps in does not have any major changes to it in those early weeks. If you have an older child, you need to get the routine set up as soon as you can, but be aware that it may take a bit longer to work.
If you find that your baby sleep routine is not working, take a look at what you have put in place to see if it can be improved. Maybe when they sleep during the day – there is not a set in stone routine for that? Try to get a daytime sleep routine in place and see if that helps with the nights.
